Former Samburu Woman Representative Maison Leshoomo has officially joined the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), marking another political defection ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki received Leshoomo during an event in Samburu County on Saturday, August 1. The ceremony also saw several other opposition-allied leaders cross over to the ruling party.

Leshoomo Explains Exit From Jubilee

Speaking during the event, Leshoomo said her decision to leave Jubilee followed former President Uhuru Kenyatta's departure from active control of the party.

She explained that her loyalty to Jubilee was tied to Uhuru's leadership and that she no longer saw a reason to remain in the party after his exit.

“I was in Jubilee because of Uhuru Kenyatta. When Uhuru gave out Jubilee, I decided to leave. Let us go back to the government,” she said.

Other Leaders Also Join UDA

Among the leaders who joined UDA were former Samburu North MP Alois Lentoimanga, Samburu Senate aspirant Lkitonga Lengolos, Suguta Ward MCA James Leleruk, Janet Lavasanti, and former Samburu County Assembly Deputy Speaker Adamson Lanyasunya.

Deputy President Kindiki welcomed the defectors and said their move showed increasing support for President William Ruto's administration.

“Let us welcome Leshoomo to UDA and into Ruto's government. Let us also welcome our former Governor Moses Lenolkulal to UDA. I want to take this opportunity to welcome you all to UDA,” Kindiki said.

Defection Follows Jubilee Resignation

The defection came only days after Leshoomo formally resigned from the Jubilee Party and stepped down as Chairperson of the Jubilee Party National Women's League.

In a resignation letter dated July 27, 2026, she said the decision was voluntary and made in accordance with the Constitution and the Political Parties Act.

Her move adds to the growing list of politicians realigning with UDA as parties begin positioning themselves for the 2027 General Election.
