The British High Commission in Nairobi has dismissed a document circulating online as fake. The letter falsely claimed to address a meeting request involving former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and the UK Prime Minister’s Office.

Officials confirmed the document did not originate from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office. They also rejected its contents and warned the public against misinformation spreading on social media.

The fake letter suggested that the UK declined a politically motivated meeting request. It also contained commentary on Kenya’s internal politics and the 2027 General Elections.

The High Commission clarified that the claims had no official basis. It stressed that the UK does not interfere in domestic electoral politics of sovereign states.

Officials also joked that authentic correspondence would not include informal remarks seen in the circulating document. They used the example of “spilt tea” to underline its inauthentic tone.

Claims in Viral Letter and Political Context

The circulated letter alleged that the meeting request focused on Gachagua’s political ambitions. It claimed the UK Prime Minister’s Office rejected engagement linked to domestic political positioning.

It further stated that the UK only considers consular, humanitarian, or bilateral matters. However, officials confirmed the entire document lacked authenticity.

UK authorities did not confirm whether Gachagua formally submitted any meeting request. They only focused on dismissing the circulating document as fake.

Gachagua is currently in the United Kingdom on a diaspora tour. He seeks support for his Democracy for the Citizens Party ahead of the 2027 elections.

Diaspora Politics and 2027 Strategy

During his tour, Gachagua proposed increased diaspora representation in Kenyan governance. He suggested nominations to Parliament, Senate, county assemblies, and even the executive.

He argued that diaspora inclusion would strengthen governance and restore meritocracy in public service. He also linked his proposals to broader reforms in leadership systems.

Gachagua added that counties supporting his party would prioritise diaspora representation. He said this would strengthen devolution and improve local governance structures.

Political discussions around his tour continue as Kenya moves closer to the 2027 General Elections.
