Political fireworks are expected in Siaya County senatorial race with former Governor Cornel Rasanga Amoth declaring his bid to oust the incumbent, Dr Oburu Oginga during the 2027 general election.
Rasanga has been largely out of the headlines for the last few years since leaving office as Governor in 2022.
He served as Siaya County Governor for two terms before bowing out in 2022. Surprisingly, he opted not to run for any elective position.
His move to join the senator race paves way for a major political showdown between him and the ODM party leader Dr Oburu Oginga who is eyeing a second straight term in office.
At 84 years in 2027, the ODM boss has not yet declared whether he will defend his seat come the next general election. But in a recent function, Dr Oginga said that he was going nowhere, saying that he was almost the same age as USA President Donald Trump.
With the Oburu Oginga- Rasanga showdown on the cards, expect political fireworks. Who will clinch the party ticket?
