Oburu Odinga has announced plans to sue over claims that he was “bought by the State.” He said he will take legal action against those making the allegations and demand proof in court.
Speaking during an ODM youth convention in Nairobi, Oburu dismissed the claims and insisted he cannot be influenced or bought. He warned that anyone repeating the allegations must be ready to defend them legally.
Although he did not directly name Rigathi Gachagua, the former Deputy President has previously made similar claims. Gachagua has alleged that President William Ruto influenced Oburu and the Orange Democratic Movement.
Oburu said such statements damage his reputation and mislead the public. He insisted that political differences should not result in unverified accusations.
He also stated that his focus remains on strengthening ODM and engaging with supporters. He added that criticism will not distract him from party activities or future political plans.
The remarks highlight growing tension between political leaders ahead of the 2027 elections. Disputes over alliances and influence continue to shape the country’s political environment.
