A truck driver traveling along the Nakuru–Nairobi highway has shared a harrowing experience that has left him wary of offering lifts to strangers. The driver, who requested anonymity for safety reasons, said he was approached last week by someone he initially believed to be a young woman in need of a ride.
“I saw her standing by the roadside and thought she needed help,” the driver explained. “She seemed polite and friendly, so I decided to give her a lift, as I’ve done countless times before.”
But the journey took a shocking turn. As the truck passed the outskirts of Naivasha, the passenger allegedly revealed himself to be a man in disguise. “I couldn’t believe my eyes,” the driver said. “It was shocking to see someone I thought was a woman suddenly turn out to be a man, and before I could react, he robbed me of my money and phone.”
Authorities have been notified, and the assailant was described as wearing casual clothing and speaking in a soft tone that initially put the driver at ease. “It all happened so fast. One moment I was being polite, the next I was helpless,” he recounted.
The incident has sparked discussions among commuters and truck drivers along the busy route, with many urging increased vigilance. Local police have advised drivers to verify identities and report any suspicious behavior immediately.
While the investigation continues, the driver says he will never judge someone by appearances again. “I will stay alert and prioritize my safety over politeness,” he said.
