William Ruto has awarded Sabastian Sawe KSh8 million following his performance at the London Marathon. The athlete received the reward during a ceremony held at State House in Nairobi.

Sawe, who entered the race as a strong contender, delivered a standout performance on Sunday. His result placed him among the top marathoners globally and drew national attention.

During the event, the President presented two cheques worth KSh5 million and KSh3 million. He praised Sawe for representing Kenya on the international stage and strengthening the country’s athletics reputation.

Ruto also handed the athlete a customised number plate bearing the digits “1:59:30.” The gesture symbolised recognition of Sawe’s achievement and his growing status in long-distance running.

Sawe arrived in the country through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport after competing in London. Leaders and sports officials welcomed him back following his performance.

The recognition adds to Kenya’s long-standing dominance in marathon running. Athletes from the country continue to excel in major global competitions, reinforcing Kenya’s position in long-distance athletics.

The government has maintained support for athletes through rewards and recognition programs. Officials say such incentives aim to motivate competitors and promote sporting excellence.
