The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) released timetables for 2026 national exams on Wednesday, March 4. The schedule covers KCSE, KJSEA, and KPSEA assessments.
KCSE 2026 Exam Dates
KNEC confirmed that the 2026 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams will start on October 19. The exams will end on November 20.
The first papers will be oral and practical exams between October 19 and 30. Written exams will begin on November 2 with English Paper 1.
Exam Session Timings
The first session will start at 8 a.m., while the second session begins at 2 p.m. Candidates will not receive extra time beyond what is indicated on the question paper.
Late arrivals must provide a satisfactory reason to the supervisor. Only in exceptional cases will papers be given to students more than half an hour late.
KPSEA 2026 Exam Dates and Subjects
The Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) will start on October 26 and end on October 28. Candidates will be tested in Mathematics, English, Integrated Science, Kiswahili, and Creative Arts and Social Studies.
Grade 4 and 5 pupils with project and practical components sat assessments on March 2. KNEC set submission deadlines for project marks on March 31 and July 31 for Milestones 1 and 2.
KJSEA 2026 Exam Dates and Projects
The Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) will run from May to October 2026. Creative Arts and Sports projects will take place between May and July.
Agriculture and Pre-technical studies projects will run throughout July. Rehearsals for the main exam will be on October 23, and the exam starts on October 26.
KNEC Guidelines
All first session KJSEA papers start at 8:30 a.m., and no extra time will be allowed. Candidates are expected to follow timelines strictly and avoid lateness.
KNEC reminded schools to upload project marks within the deadlines. The exam council emphasised compliance to ensure smooth administration of all national assessments.
