A 56-year-old businessman collapsed and died moments after visiting his girlfriend.The incident sparked both grief and concern among residents.
The deceased identified as Geoffrey Mulenga is reported to have died in the early hours under circumstances that authorities say are still under investigation.
According to Copperbelt Police Commissioner Mwala Yuyi, the matter was reported at Riverside Police Station at around 8am although the incident is believed to have occurred several hours earlier.
Mulenga had allegedly spent part of the night drinking at a local establishment in the company of friends including his 26-year-old girlfriend Sharon Mwila.
Later, he reportedly hired a taxi to escort him and his girlfriend to her house within the same neighbourhood.
Police say the two proceeded to an outdoor toilet structure at the residence where they engaged in an intiмate encounter. Moments later, Mulenga is said to have suddenly collapsed.
When police officers and scenes-of-crime personnel arrived at the scene they found his body lying on the ground facing upwards. No visible injuries were observed during the initial examination.
Authorities have since moved the body to Kitwe Teaching Hospital mortuary where a post-mortem examination is expected to determine the exact cause of death.
The incident has triggered conversations within the community about underlying health conditions and the potential risks associated with physical exertion, particularly among older individuals.
His family is mourning the sudden loss of their loved one and residents are struggling to come to terms with a night that ended in tragedy.
