HAPPENING NOW: Ruai Bypass Submerged By Water Following Heavy Downpour

Movement along the Ruai Bypass was disrupted after heavy rains caused severe flooding. The downpour left sections of the road impassable, bringing traffic to a standstill.

Motorists halted movement as floodwaters cut across the busy stretch. Commuters faced long delays as normal transport activity collapsed in the affected areas.

Residents in nearby neighbourhoods also suffered the impact. Some waded through waist-deep water after floods entered their homes during the night.

The situation worsened as rainfall continued into Tuesday morning. Daily activities slowed as water levels remained high across several points.

The Kenya Meteorological Department had earlier warned of sustained rainfall across multiple regions. The advisory covered Nairobi, the Rift Valley, the Coast, and Northeastern Kenya.

The agency cautioned that some areas could face intense downpours leading to flash floods, rising rivers, and reduced visibility for drivers. It also warned that rivers could swell even outside direct rainfall zones.

Hilly regions near the Aberdare Ranges and Mount Kenya remain at risk of landslides if the rains continue.

Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution and residents in low-lying areas to stay alert as the wet weather persists.
